Mark,
This is probably your best bet, however, this has been a problem for
quite awhile, and though your solution should be good enough and similar
to a solution like this that Mervyn shows people, dBASE may not be
interested in fixing this for the time being since most of the time,
your fix is the solution.
As for the other times that error occurs, I'd suggest one other thing.
Possible Hardware Memory corruption. It's a long shot since most memory
is fairly robust these days, but that doesn't make it invulnerable, and
may be the actual problem from a hit and miss no consistency stack
error. I know it's a pain, but if the error is confined to one
computer/server, it's a possibility.
