Hi,
I have been using DOSBOX-X successfully for about 2 years now. I use it in
combination with Windows 11.
I use it at my clients to run DOS dBASE 5.0 compiled programs. Programs
access dbf files using Windows file sharing without problems of locking
records, files, etc. ;
the same data is accessed at the same time by dBASE 2019.2 programs.
DOSBOX-X can be used with confidence.
But, whenever possible, I prefer to use combination: Windows 10 32bit +
NTVDM + TameDos Version 6.0.f
The difference lies in the speed at which the programs are run. DOSBOX-X is
about 10-20 times slower for procedures that process data. When the user
enters data, no difference is felt.
Probably, DOSBOX-X was designed mainly for running DOS games, and therefore
periodically introduces a delay in running CPU-intensive procedures. I did
not find in the configuration file the option to fix this.
Starting with DOSBOX-X version 2023.05.01, the speed has improved a bit.
My configuration file is attached.
Thank you,
Vasile
