Yes! That was the point of my question. Learning the syntax *is* the hurdle. That's why I was looking for a language that uses dBASE-like syntax, without regard to what most people might use it for.
However, you made this comment which helped me understand something I had been missing. You said:

That's something I needed to hear. Since my only experience is with dBASE, I didn't realize that dBASE is somewhat unique in being useful as a general purpose language. Before reading your comment, I thought *every* language could be used as a general purpose language. So, your comment helped me understand that dBASE is different in that way. Thank you for that.
I was also *very* intrigued by your comment about Python:
