However, if you are interested in this sort of thing, I would encourage you to
read up on rmToolBar.cc and if you are prepared to put a little work into the
graphics side of things, it is amazing what can be achieved.

Have a look at the attached screen-grab of a Patient Document scanning and
viewing app that I wrote many years ago.

The screen-grab is with the app in scanning mode, and you can see one rmToolBar
at the top of the form with various shapes of buttons (and text display), and
then in the rmScanner frame a whole array of different buttons, all of which
are dynamic, and respond to "mouseover", "click" etc..

The rmToolBar uses rmPaintBox in the background, but you don't need to get your
hands dirty if you use the rmToolBar Designer to create your tool bars !!

The work is in preparing the graphics.

I'm sure that Mervyn's MVdB approach will work well for you, but there is no
doubt that this approach could be adapted to your needs if you were keen
enough.
