Hi Moses,

While I have retained old CD's for sentimental reasons I never actually
use them unless it's to be able to inspect an application that someone
needs upgrading to the latest version of dBASE.

I would not even think about using your old versions but jump straight
in and purchase dBASE2019.  This is for the following reasons:

1) Overall, it is the best version of dBASE I have used, and I started
with dBASE IV.

2) For my purposes, any bugs still in it have effective work-arounds.

3) It still occasionally crashes when I'm developing new stuff, but I
find 95% of the time it's due to my faulty code, the remaining 5% I find
are bugs already listed in the newsgroups. Having said that I'm sure
someone will list a new bug from left field tomorrow that no-one else
has seen. :-)

4) You would be supporting dBASE in the slow march to the next version.

However, you might be skint and thereby have to watch pennies (we've all
been there) in which case I would use dBASE 9.  For the reasons that
Mervyn gives I would avoid dBASE 8.

Good luck in the new adventure,
Andy
