Robbie,

One reason might be if you don't already or don't want to learn regex,
your way is understandable and usable as well. Mervyn's way allows the
use of a regex capable control (which his example gives a little idea
how to use) that is only of use if you know regex and want to use that.
  They're both useful, regardless of size. What matters, is getting the
job done. :)
