Ken..  Thanks for that build tip.  Think I found the solution with this:

shipcost = str(master->shipcost,7,2)
arr= "{^price^:[^"+ltrim(shipcost)+"^]*^method^:[^Fedex^]}"

It actually works, then a macro in libre to change ^ = "  and * = ,
