It would be time well spent to work through the dBASE tutorial.  You can
get a copy from Ken Mayer's website.  There is a separate newsgroup on
the server to help deal with any questions pertaining to the tutorial.

From the same site you can get a copy of the dUFLP (dBASE Users
Function Library) which contains over 1000 reusable code snippets.  Some
are very specialised and some are outdated but there MANY useful
routines available.  The hardest part is getting to know what is
available. :-)

Ken has also written some books on programming in dBASE. They are a
worthwhile investment.
