Definitely. The link on the dBASE website uses Web-News to access the
newsgroups. While this is adequate to introduce newcomers to the news
groups it soon becomes a real pain to use. One has to specifically log
in and select each of the newsgroups to see if any new posts have been made.
Fortunately dBASE also provides an NNTP feed so with a suitable news
reader you have the messages in your delivered just like email. If your
current email client supports NNTP the use that. Some do, some don't.
Windows Live Mail does, Windows Mail doesn't.
I use Thunderbird for email and newsgroups. The only quirk is that one
uses the "Follow up" button to reply to newsgroups and the "Reply"
button to reply to email.
The server name is news.dbase.com No username or password is required
and simply use the default values for port, etc. It is, however
customary to add something like _no_spam_ somewhere in your email
address when using and open newsserver.
