The dBASE Report designer is quite powerful but it is definitely not as
intuitive to use as, for example, the Form designer. Ken Mayer's The
dBASE Report Book http://www.goldenstag.net/dbase/Books/dBASEBooks.htm
is a worthwhile investment but if you don't buy the book then the
following two articles in the dBASE knowledgebase are a "must read".
http://www.dbase.com/Knowledgebase/beg/begrep/begrep.htm
http://www.dbase.com/Knowledgebase/beg/reports/REPORTS.HTM
Including pictures in a report is not a problem as one can place an
image object anywhere in the report. If the images are held in a
binary field of a table it's as simple as dragging the field onto the
report from the Field Palette. If the images are held in separate image
files in a folder then a bit of coding is required.
Unfortunately the Wizard does not handle datamodules. If you do have a
suitable datamodule which combines the various tables you need for the
report you can drag that onto the designer. The Field Palette will show
the various tables and the fields in each table. I haven't experienced
this myself but there have been reports of problems where more than two
tables are involved.
Where I need data from multiple tables I prefer to use localSQL to JOIN
the various tables into one virtual table. The Report designer Wizard
does recognise .sql files so once you've used the SQL designer to create
the JOINed table the Wizard should be able to take you a long way before
you need to use the designer to tidy things up.
If you need help in setting up a .sql file please post empty copies of
the various tables and describe what you need from each.
Printing to .pdf files requires the use of a suitable printer driver.
There are many available but one that works well with dBASE is PDF995.
All the free PDF pseudo-printers either show a "sponsor" page while
printing or place a "Printed by ..." line on each page. The free
version of PDF995 does show a "sponsor" page but US$9.95 is little
enough to pay for a licence.
