If the BDE is installed and you are using the 32-bit ODBC, the regular
"Microsoft dBASE Driver (*.dbf)" will read level 7 tables.
We do it all the time. I have several 3rd party vendors that need access to
our level 7 tables via ODBC.
I just install the BDE and setup the ODBC and it works fine. The 32-bit
Microsoft ODBC driver will use the BDE to read level 7 tables as long as it
can find idapi.dll
I can open my level 7 tables in Open Office and several other applications
using ODBC the same way.
If you create level 5 tables and as long as you stick to the rules for level
5 and don't modify the tables from within dBASE, they will stay level 5 even
if you have your BDE set for level 7.
I have a couple level 5 tables I use on a regular basis for export for a
couple vendors who can't handle level 7 tables and as long as I only
read/write data to them they remain level 5.
There is also a couple utilities in the dUFLP that will copy/convert level 7
tables to level 5.
The nice thing about dBASE is there are plenty of workarounds.

Hi Rich.. Thanks very much for your info. I had changed the dbf levels to 7
which if I read correctly won't allow me to do this. No big deal though!
Thanks again!!
