Just to get a clear understanding what does m->tard stand for.
From my limited knowledge m->tard would be used to access tard field of
table m when table is used using xdml.

Now coming to possible solutions to your problem.

Have you issued form.area1.rowset.beginedit() and any place.
If not try
?form.area1.rowset.beginedit()
and
?form.area1.rowset.save()

Both should return true for successful save.
