To do that you could use method 2 and:
store _app.OpdIsOpen = true when you open it
store _app.OpdIsOpen = false when you close it
For the menu items, check the _app.OpdIsOpen setting, perhaps using the onGotFocus method, set the enabled property of the menu object via form.root.....
