Dear Sir,
I went through all your books (Volume 1 /volume 2 /the dbase book plus )
but could not find even a single reference of how to connect to a
database on a server from a remote computer over LAN.
The topic of setting up Firebird is there, There is a chapter on working
in Shared environment (with a brief reference to UNC path) but otherwise
there is absolutely no reference of how to access .dbf tables / firebird
over network.
This may not have been a necessity some time ago. But most of the
programmers do require it today.
I have setup firebird on one system, have successfully set the active
property to true of a ADO database but have been unable to access it
over network.
I installed mysql server using XAMPP accessed / altered tables with help
from Ronnie but I am stuck there also in respect to connection with data
on server. I have been successful in accessing mysql server tables (data
is visible in grid on the form). I accessed the table using php from a
client computer but failed when trying to do the same using Dbase.
I hope many more share my sentiments
Regards
Akshat
